A Collaborative Project with Koji Shiroshita
“Drawing on Space” is a collaborative endeavor by visual artist Koji Shiroshita and XR/Web creator Mifuku, seeking to forge new expressions through the fusion of fine arts and XR technology.
Koji Shiroshita, known for his “Completely Untitled” series (since 2005) that explores the essence of painting through intricate line work with pen and ink, also challenges the boundaries between painting and photography in his “PICTURE” series (since 2020). More recently, he has been particularly focused on “VR Drawing,” using VR equipment to draw directly onto space itself as the medium. This approach imbues the act of drawing, traditionally confined to flat surfaces, with new physicality and dimensionality, paradoxically deepening the connection with the real world.
Mifuku reinterprets existing art contexts through XR, exemplified by works like “Given: Marcel Duchamp” (2022), which reconsiders Marcel Duchamp from an XR perspective.
Drawings created by Shiroshita in VR are reinterpreted and augmented by Mifuku, transforming ordinary scenes into installations via AR, viewed through digital devices, thus altering everyday landscapes into sites of installation.
「空間へのドローイング」は、美術作家・城下浩伺と、XR/Webクリエイター・みふくの協働により、美術とXRの融合を通じて未来の表現を拓く試みです。
城下浩伺は、ペンと墨という古典的なメディウムを用い細密な線の表現で画面を構成する「Completely Untitled」シリーズ（2005〜）や、絵画と写真の境界を問う「PICTURE」シリーズ（2020〜）など、一貫して「絵画の本質」を探求の対象にしてきた美術作家です。近年は、VR機器を用いて空間自体を支持体として描く「VRドローイング」に注力。このアプローチは、伝統的な平面に閉じ込められた「描く」行為に新しい身体性と立体性をもたらし、逆説的に現実世界との繋がりを深化させています。
みふくはマルセル・デュシャンをVRの観点から捉え直した作品「Given: Marcel Duchamp」（2022）など、既存の美術の文脈とXR表現の接続に主眼を置くクリエイターです。
城下が描いたVRドローイングはみふくによって再解釈・AR化され、デジタルデバイスの画面を通して現実世界に”転写”される事により、ありふれた景色をインスタレーションの現場へと変貌させます。
